About
ami Salazar, born 1971, attended Savannah College of Art and Design and graduated with honors from Memphis College of Art.

At a very young age she became enthralled in creating her own world of characters through her drawings. She grew up in Northwest Arkansas surrounded by the Ozark Mountains where she developed her reverence of nature. She also traveled in Europe studying and admiring the art of the old masters. She has combined a love of nature and the old world to develop her own unique style. She paints in oils often pre-distressing her board surfaces and always reworking images until she has achieved the desired effect. Her work most often reflects the innocent images of babies or the haunting expressions of mysterious women, all enveloped in the ornate style that can only be derived from the colors and beauty of nature.

Tami is now producing for sale some of her original oil paintings and drawings, as well as a limited number of Giclee prints. (Giclee printing is a process that most accurately reproduces an original work of art). Also, in the near future, Tami plans on expanding her inventory to include her original hand sculpted dolls produced in a variety of media available in one of a kind and limited editions.

I have become truly fascinated with the art of doll-making. I have always had a great interest in creating fantasy characters in my paintings and a great desire to bring them to life in a three dimensional form.
I have attended two workshops under the tutelage of the reknowned doll artist Marlaine Verhelst, who resides in the Netherlands. I cannot express enough my gratitude and admiration for such a wonderful lady. She is so gifted, completely self-taught, an extreme inspiration and one who is compelled to share her gift with others.

I have been exploring many different mediums and find I am most fond of stoneclay due to its softness and pliability. It is an air-drying clay that very versatile yet once painted and sealed it is very strong. My dolls are sculpted over a wire armature allowing for partial or full movement and posing abilities. My dolls can range in height anywhere from 3 inches to 20 inches. Watercolors, pastels, or oil paints are used for painting the features or skin tones and a large variety of materials new and old are used for costuming and display props.

The art of doll-making as opened up for me a never-ending realm of possibilities. It is a whole new and unique avenue for personal expression versus painting on a flat surface. It all begins with a vision or dream: You sculpt the eyes to see, the ears to hear, the bodies to express themselves; you sew them tiny clothes, give them special names, and quite honestly they have become your children, the children of your imagination. They have so many stories to tell, and people to delight and bring joy to, and you realize you must send them on their way into the world.
